WPC Future Leaders Forum 2016

In 2016, from 24 to 27 October, IBP – Brazilian Petroleum, Natural Gas & Biofuels Institute brought to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the fifth edition of the largest gathering of young professionals in the petroleum industry. Under the motto “Game changers: new leaders for a new competitive energy industry”, the 2016 edition of the event, created by the World Petroleum Council (WPC), had as pillars of discussion topics such as industry sustainability, business leadership and technology & innovation.

FLF is a global and collaborative event.
To organize this 5th edition here in Brazil, young professionals from all around the globe did a lot of research, organized a lot of focus groups, discussions and meetings.

Brian joined IPIECA as the Executive Director in 2011 following a 23 year career in BP. He graduated in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Imperial College, London, UK and was recruited into BP’s Refining and Marketing international graduate programme in 1986.
Over the course of 23 years, his career included assignments in London, Copenhagen, Budapest, Athens and Johannesburg, and business experience in over 60 countries. During his time with BP he has had a varied career of technical, commercial, financial and leadership roles across the downstream value chain including crude and products trading, marine fuels, lubricants and alternative energy.

Maryann T. Mannen is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of FMC Technologies, Inc. As CFO, Ms. Mannen is responsible for overall financial management of the Company, its financial reporting and transparency, and for multiple corporate functions.
Ms. Mannen has extensive leadership experience in all businesses of FMC Technologies over nearly three decades with the Company. Before being appointed to her current role, she served as Senior Vice President and CFO from 2011 to early 2014. Prior to that, she was Treasurer, and Vice President and Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the Company.

From 2007 through 2010, Ms. Mannen was Vice President of Administration, responsible for Human Resources, Executive Compensation, Health, Safety and Environment, and Corporate Communications. She also served as the Secretary to the Compensation and the Nominating and Governance Committees of the Board of Directors of FMC Technologies.

Ms. Mannen holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and an MBA from Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. She serves on the Board of Directors for Owens Corning, a Fortune 500 public company, as well as The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, a non-profit.

Rogerio Valle

Rogerio Valle is a Professor at the Production Engineering Program at COPPE/UFRJ, where he coordinates SAGE – Advanced Systems for Production Management Lab and orients research on Sustainable Production (based on Live Cycle Evaluation). He is responsible for the SAGE Training Program Global Reporting Initiative for sustainability reports.

He has a Doctor’s Degree at Paris V University (Sciences Humaines Sorbonne), DEA in Scientific Methods of Management (Paris-Dauphine University), a Master ’s Degree in Production Engineering (COPPE/UFRJ) and is a Mechanical Engineer (IME).

Dr. Pierce Riemer

Dr. Pierce Riemer is the Director General of the World Petroleum Council, managing 70 member countries and international committees. He is a climate change expert and represents WPC at UNFCCC meetings and at the UNFC Sustainability Committee and UNECE Reserves and Resources committees. In addition, he sits on the board of the Energy Access Platform with the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). He was awarded the “Kazenergy” Medal for contributions to international cooperation in the oil and gas sector.


He joined the WPC after 8 years with the International Energy Agency, where he set up the GHG Programme in 1990, responsible for initiating carbon dioxide capture and storage activities. During this time he also set up a monitoring programme for the Sleipner activities. He worked with the British Coal Corporation , where he was involved in the Environmental and later the Corporate Planning Branch. Prior to this he worked on environmental projects and power generation and utililisation studies for the National Coal Board and Coal Products Ltd. Dr Riemer holds a Degree in Applied Chemistry from the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Fellow of The Energy Institute and a PhD in Catalysis (Gas to Liquids). He is the author of over 200 technical papers, more than 60 magazine features and 15 books.

Victor Alves

Victor Alves is graduated in Oil and Gas Technology from University Estacio de Sá. Since 2010 he is a member of the Youth Committee of IBP, taking Coordination in 2013. He was part of the Mentoring Program WPC as a Mentee from 2012 to 2014. Since 2012 is member of the SPE, and in 2016 became Director of Social Medias and Internet.

Victor has 6 years of experience in Oil and Gas area, specifically with Field Operations. He began his career working in the field by Engineering and Transocean UTC, and since 2011 is at FMC Technologies, where he worked in the technical area, contracts and is currently Coordinator of the Integrated Services unit Surface Services. In 2014 he received the Vanguard Award and Knowledge Management Advocate Award, awards granted to employees who have excelled in collaborative action and innovation that bring value to the business and working in the spread of the GC within the organization, respectively. Since then, he is Core Team Member of two major networks of FMC Technologies Knowledge Management System: School of Engineering and Network Leaders.
