Sessions
Session 1
Setting the Scene
Chairs: Isabel Waclawek (Total) and Paulo Martins (Subsea7)
The Oil and Gas industry seems to be slowly recovering from the 2014 oil price drop. Meanwhile the energy paradigm has shifted under pressure of climate threat for the planet. All oil and gas projects will become more economically challenging and many may not happen and will find that merit ranking will be even more the rule. In this context, deep-water projects must significantly improve their financial breakeven to remain competitive against more conventional developments and shale production.
The session will cover the views from Industry on the estimated projection of global oil demand and price, highlighting some of the concerns about how to deal with this new and more challenging market, where “good enough isn’t good enough”.
Session 2
The Digital Revolution in Subsea
Chairs: Alex Dal Pont (Petrobras) and Vitor Souza (Aker Solutions)
Today, around the world, the digital transformation is changing the mind-set of several industries and presenting countless opportunities to optimize business operations and increase cost savings. It is expected that oil and gas industries, and specifically subsea, will be highly impacted in the short to medium term. This scenario reveals a journey that can introduce potential new business models, giving more control and independence for managing assets, improved delivery to stakeholders, better overview of operations and also brings benefits to health, safety, security and environmental performance.
How far are we away to be able to implement digital technologies in subsea systems? This session will bring some examples and case studies of digital transformation that can help the subsea industry take this path.
Session 3
Field Operations and Integrity Management
Chairs: Alessandro Franca (Petrobras) and João Batista (Consultant)
In Brazil, there are two major areas of subsea developments: the pre-salt, mainly at Santos Basin and the mature fields, focused around Campos Basin. While in the pre-salt developments, the main challenge is to reduce CAPEX and introduce robust asset integrity programs to guarantee lower OPEX and reach the expected oil curve along the life of the field; in the mature fields the main challenge is related to understanding exactly the remaining asset integrity level and implement actions to guarantee maximum performance of the existing assets, with an aim to increase oil recovery factors.
This session proposes to present solutions covering the nuances of both and also touches on the aspects brought by the new local regulations related to asset integrity (SGIP and SGSS). Topics that will be covered include new inspection and monitoring technologies, resources optimization, integrity management and remote operation & monitoring services.
Session 4
Late Life Management
Chairs: Marcello Augustus (Petrobras) and Lauro Puppim (Saipem)
In the current oil industry scenario, revitalization, integrity management, life extension and decommissioning of subsea fields are significant aspects of operational expenditure. At a time of softening oil prices, the return on capital should be carefully evaluated, and it is crucial to maximize the return on investment. The need to optimize the resources and enhance the knowledge over the field performance as well as increase the oil recovery factor and minimize the impacts in existing infrastructure lead the operators to think in new ways to manage the late life of their fields.
This session will focus on how to get more from and minimize the impacts in existing infrastructure, impacts and solutions to increase oil recovery factor, revitalization and life extension solutions, including subsea processing and boosting (pump, compression, separation, flow meters, water injection, etc.), lessons learned for new projects and technologies, and new business models.
Session 5
Standardization vs Fit for purpose: Projects for the Future
Chairs: Gabriel Andrade (Shell) and Carlos Moreira (Genesis)
In recent years, standardization of subsea systems and associated equipment was a powerful strategy to allow projects to be developed quickly, reliably and allowing flexibility for late changes. In a new oil price scenario, fit for purpose projects shows up as an alternative for sustainable cost reductions under a mindset to eliminate unnecessary (“nice to have”) features on the subsea systems.
During this session, operators and suppliers are invited to discuss how, when and where to add value from “standardization”, and when to apply “fit for purpose” solutions so not to overcomplicate systems. It is important to re-evaluate the requirements, and understand when it is appropriate to use industry standards or adopt company specific requirements.
Session 6
Subsea Brazilian Industry: Competing in the Global Market
Chairs: Marcos Guedes (Petrobras) and Rachid Felix (Valor+)
In a Global and Integrated Business World, aiming to promote new ways of working, how should Brazilian established companies get a share from the market, using the local demand as leverage for long term participation in the global market? In this new scenario, technology is a key driver for increasing the competitiveness. How to efficiently use available resources from the R&D Levy Funds, is a discussion that could not be missed.
This session will address different perspectives for the topics above. Operators, suppliers and regulatory agencies will be present to discuss contract models, regulatory, taxes, logistics and commercial models.
