Wael Sawan and R. Blair Thomas – CEOs at Shell and EIG, respectively – are the two new international names confirmed for ROG.e 2024, one of the leading energy events in the world, organized by the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP).

The executives will be part of the “Strategic Talks”, a space where C-Level professionals will debate trends, business, ESG and the market, and is part of the ROG.e schedule, which will take place at the Olympic Boulevard in Rio de Janeiro between September 23 and 26.

Sawan has been in the position since the beginning of 2023. He was previously Shell’s Director of Integrated Gas, Renewables and Energy Solutions. He has a master’s degree in engineering from McGill University in Montreal and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Thomas is Chairman of the Board of Directors and EIG’s Investment and Executive Committees, where he has worked since 1998. He is also a former White House energy policy and budget advisor in the administration of President George H.W. Bush. He holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia, a J.D. from New York Law School, and an MBA from Georgetown University.

ROG.e 2024 will bring together global leaders and authorities to exchange expertise on the diversity and transformation of the global and national energy grid in recent years and the future. Energy efficiency and security, best sustainability practices, cutting-edge technologies, and low-carbon solutions will be the main topics of the dialogues and panels.

“Companies in the sector work as integrated energy corporations, investing in renewables and new green technologies such as hydrogen. The concept of the event – “Connecting Energies” – is a way of promoting synergy in debates between these new generating sources, the energy transition, innovation, and security of supply for the whole industry and society,” says Roberto Ardenghy, president of IBP.
