The Brazilian Institute for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (IBP) will host an Oil Industry Crisis Assessment Workshop to discuss the slowdown in the domestic oil industry driven by the decline in international oil prices. Organized in partnership with the Energy Economics Group from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IE-UFRJ)’s Institute of Economics, the event will be held on 16 October, from 4:00 to 19:00 pm in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

One of the highlights of the event will be a presentation and discussion around economic indicators for the oil industry in Brazil broadly and the state of Rio de Janeiro specifically. These will include impacts on the job market, balance of trade and tax revenue over recent years.

Among the speakers at the event will be leading industry experts such as professors Edmar de Almeida and Marcelo Colomer from UFRJ’s Institute of Economics, Marcelo Vertis, the Rio de Janeiro State Undersecretary for Energy, Logistics and Industrial Development, Bruno Musso, superintendent of the National Petroleum Industry Organization (ONIP), Claudio Hamilton, Director of Macroeconomic Studies and Policy at the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), Rodrigo Leandro Moura, an economist at the Getulio Vargas Foundation and professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, and Milton Costa, General Secretary at IBP.
