One of the world’s most important pipeline events, the 10th edition of Rio Pipeline 2015 was attended by over 2 thousand visitors including conference participants, exhibitors, exhibit visitors and students. The trade show and conference was organized by the Brazilian Institute for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (IBP) from 22 to 24 September at the SulAmérica Convention Center in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

The underlying theme this year was the important role that subsea pipelines play in pre-salt developments. During the three days of the event, participants at Rio Pipeline enjoyed an integrated program of conferences, exhibitions and new features such as an “Invention to Innovation” Pavilion for startups and a Market and Career Workshop focusing on the job market.

On the last day of the event, awards were presented in recognition of innovative projects and technical papers presented during the event. Out of 177 papers presented at the conference, the technical committee evaluated and awarded 17 of them with special mentions. The best-ranked papers encompass a range of subjects including automation, supervisory and measuring systems; reliability and risk assessment; logistics and operations; environment and operational safety.

During the award luncheon, the Calgary Award was also presented to the best ranked technical paper presented at the International Pipeline Conference (IPC) in Canada, as well as the Global Pipeline Award from the Pipeline Systems Division (PSD) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers International (ASME).
